Good Orderly Direction

Over the weekend, I walked through a fine example of how God shows off in my life. When people suggest listening to that ‘still small voice’, you can trust it.

I pulled the stool up to my typewriter, inserted paper and began typing a letter to a friend. It was late Saturday morning, but the time of day, or getting it done before the mail carrier arrived, didn’t cross my mind. I just wanted to write to my friend, but I pondered what date to type at the top of the page. If I had already missed the mail being picked up, I could type Monday’s date and mail it then, but something bothered me about that, so I typed Saturday’s date and dove into the letter.

Once the letter was complete, I looked it over and located my address book along with an envelope with postage. This is normally when I’d light the votive furnace to start melting wax for the seal, but in this instance felt led to use a sticker. Once it was ready, I walked to the mailbox and placed it inside, but wasn’t sure if the mail carrier had already been by. Walking back to the house, I stepped inside and as soon as I closed the front door, the mail carrier pulled up to retrieve the letter.

Julia Cameron , the author of ‘The Artists Way’, talks with people who are unsure about God and suggests thinking of Him as Good Orderly Direction. Follow those inner promptings, making shifts along the way, but if your intentions are pure, the path will lead in a good, orderly direction.

  1. It’s always wise to listen to that voice inside … not everyone knows it’s even there.
I’m writing now myself, Madam! 😍

  2. I just found your blog and like the way you think. I read The Artist’s Way a long time ago and have forgotten so much about it. I like how you followed your own inner prompt and the letter happened. I know I sometimes forget to listen to my own wisdom and go astray, so this is a good reminder to do better.

    1. Hi Ally and I’m happy you found my blog! Thank you for your kind words and The Artist’s Way is so much more than a book, it’s a way of life. Julia is one of my favorite authors and she’s so full of wisdom. I think a lot of times we tend to lead with our thoughts instead of what’s in our heart and the heart knows the way. It’s not a very logical route, but it’s always more meaningful. 💜
