No more 9am haircut appointments. Stumbling into the salon, I trust my hairdresser to do what’s best to my hair, but he said something about ‘short’. I’ve been letting it grow out for months, but today we’re back to short! 😂
Sobriety has been on my heart and mind all year. When Covid hit, all the in-person meetings disappeared. Some have popped back up, but Zoom saved the AA program, in my opinion. My work makes it difficult to go to an in-person meeting, but I missed being in a room where everyone is there for the sole purpose of sobriety. That’s when I found AA International Online. There are meetings available every single day, all day long, for anyone wanting to learn how to stay sober.
I’ve sat in on meetings this month and have enjoyed them all, but some more than others. AA helped open the door for God to come back into my life and I wouldn’t be alive today if it weren’t for this program and the people in it, so now it’s time to give back which I haven’t done in years.
To be of service. The more we help others get through 24 hours without a drink, we get the same in return. Venturing into sobriety is no fun alone and nowadays no one has to with online meetings. There’s a difference between ‘not drinking’ and having sobriety. Most can stop drinking for a certain amount of time, but sobriety is how to live a good life without alcohol. You see, I didn’t have a drinking problem, I loved to drink, but drinking had me and I desperately wanted to live life sober.
This November marks 25 years sober and I cannot think of a more incredible gift than holding a 25-year medallion in the palm of my hand. When I first entered the online rooms, I was a new face and everyone asked me to introduce myself. They assumed I was a newcomer, so when I gave my sobriety date their mouths fell open and some looked perplexed, like, “Why are you here?”
Because the rooms and the people in them are the oxygen for this alcoholic to stay sober.
