The Original Plan

By my standards it was a fail, but God didn’t stop me from trying to create the neighborhood directory. I’m learning to release all expectations of outcomes, but couldn’t help feeling a little deflated. Maybe that was the point, to actually feel some disappointment, because I don’t feel disappointed often. Regardless, it’s done and emailed to all of 10 people who participated. 😂

A couple of years ago I had a vision, or dream of a tightknit community, but sitting here today I see where I tried to make the dream bigger than it was. The original vision was to connect with people on my street and wondered what would happen if one person on each street did the same? That’s where it started, but Barb being Barb decided to reach out to two, or three streets and bring them all together.

The more the merrier, right? Nope.

It’s important to stick to the original plan and not blow it out of proportion. Looking back over the last couple of years of how this street has changed I see God’s hand in it all. When the woods beside me were removed, that was a shock, but the best neighbors ever moved into the house that was built there. You all love Hercules, my life guru who has watched this street change and grow giving reassurance like, “It’ll be alright, Barbara. You can’t stop progress.” I’m terrified that I’ll be the one to find Hercules the day he exits.

That’s what community is about. Keeping an eye on one another, having each other’s back and saying yes without hesitation to someone’s needs no matter the inconvenience. So, for now I’ll stick to connecting with the people on my street because by God that was the original plan.

  1. It’s admirable of you to have a vision of bringing people from streets together^^ Having positive neighbors like you is a very joyful thing, I suppose!

Btw I pretty like it when you record your posts, I listen to them all.
(considering them as my English listening practice!!😎😳)

    1. It wasn’t my idea…I think my higher power placed the vision on my heart as a test to see if I would follow through with it, or dismiss it altogether. I’m happy with the follow through even though it didn’t turn out how I thought it would, it was a good experience.

Thank you lovely! Those little recordings began as practice for me speaking out loud. Working from home and mainly online I wasn’t using my voice very much at all, so I started reading the posts and adding the recordings and they have been listened to far more than I ever thought possible! It fills my heart they are helpful to you! 💜

  2. I’m celebrating the victory with you. You did it. You brought together ten people in your neighborhood. You may never know the blessings that brought. Doesn’t matter. You did it! 🤍

    1. Thank you, Dawn!!! You are right, you never know what may come of it and it’s better done than dismissed. 💜

  3. Sometimes people aren’t ready or are too busy with their own lives to have a thought for those even a block away. Honestly? I would feel the same way, but I’m happy to know those around me here. We even had a block party for all the neighbors, and my friends next door made up “Dead End Block Party” tee shirts and gave them away for free to our immediate neighbors. People came from a few blocks away, brought a dish, but I don’t expect to really get to know them any more than that. But I think you still had a really nice idea. We live and learn.
Hercules might be banking on you.

    1. Thank you for these solid words of wisdom Jeanne. The name of your block party is hilarious and I love that someone actually made t-shirts! It’s great that they showed up with a dish and it shows they want that connection. To be a part of something bigger than themselves. Oh gosh, Hercules is my heart. 💜
