I bought a pair of pants off Poshmark to replace my semi-existing yard pants. I didn’t realize until recently how paper thin mine had become with rips and tears at the seams. I probably need to pay better attention to what I’m wearing, but they’ve been perfect for working in the yard, so I purchased a brand-new pair of the same old pants for $5, plus shipping.
The yard is taking very little effort from me now, which is how it should be while seasons change. The ginormous bag of dirt is almost empty and the little bit left is tucked away on a shelf in the gardening shed out back. The extra pots that once held plants will be wiped off and added to the shelf alongside the dirt until Spring, but I’m not sure I’m ready to retire my yard clothes yet.
Recently, my yard clothes were frowned upon while shopping at Whole Foods, but there’s a couple of local businesses that’ll welcome you in while wearing them and the dirtier the better. The day I purchased this remaining bag of dirt I was repotting plants and placing them in the yard with the water hose nearby. I needed more dirt to finish the job, so I grabbed my keys, hopped in my truck and drove to the local hardware store who supports plant people. I didn’t realize until I was standing at the checkout with my purchases that my pants were wet and smeared with dirt.
I was embarrassed and told the older gentleman standing behind the counter, “My gosh, I didn’t realize my pants were so dirty! This is the only place I could ever walk into, covered in dirt and nobody says a word.” These words he spoke through a smile, put my heart at ease, “Young lady, you are part of an elite group!”
