The Granny Glasses

Last week, my favorite pair of granny glasses broke. The lens fell out and I could have fixed it with super glue, but knew from past experience that if the glue got on the lens it would be a mess. Thankfully my tube of super glue had dried up, because you know I was gonna give it a shot!

My daughter had given them to me, so I was just having a moment of sentiment. I have other readers, but they aren’t as comfortable as the ones that broke, so I made a note on my Walmart list to find a new pair and I did. I like colorful ones with a little bit of bling, but I can’t bring myself to buy them online because I like trying them on to make sure they fit properly. I found a purple pair that cost $9.99 and placed them in my cart.

This made me wonder why I wait until a pair breaks? Why not take a leisurely approach and look at granny glasses while I’m out shopping, instead of frantically trying to find a pair before my next zoom?

The local hardware store has revamped their space and it’s so much more enjoyable to shop there now. Years ago they had a section for women which is smart because the husbands get to shop longer if the wife is entertained. It was so girly with pretties for the home, but the woman who created the space retired and I missed it being there.

After revamping the store, they added a section for the home and it’s not as fun as the previous one, but it has some interesting finds. That’s where I found the socks in my previous post and they have one of my favorite candles that you rarely see for sale locally. Then, I saw the most magical part of the space…low and behold…they had a spinning rack of granny glasses and I’m pretty sure I let out a squeal of delight!

They were the same price, $9.99, as the pair I’d just bought and this time I wasn’t looking for them, but they found me. Maybe the display has always been there, but I wasn’t in a rush that day, so it felt like the first time seeing it. The small joys in life are often like that. They are there just waiting for us to notice.
