I was recently reminded to be careful who I share my ‘big dream’ with. To others it will sound crazy and they’ll take a step back. The dream in your heart was planted there for you and you alone. It won’t make sense to anyone else, so focus on the steps in private.
Here’s an example of why we can and need to trust our *inner ding. Over the weekend, I moved some furniture around, but this one piece just can’t seem to find it’s place. When I saw it in August at a garage sale, I loved it, but now I’m not sure it’s gonna stay. Sometimes ‘things’ come into our lives and they’re not for us, but someone else. While I wait for it’s rightful owner I’m trying to find use for it in my life.
I purchased it from my neighbor to use it in the entryway along with a mirror to hang above it. The mirror is huge and needed to be tightened up in the frame, but that will be another blogpost because repairing that mirror revealed snippets of how far I’ve come.

Over the weekend, I swapped this cabinet out of the entryway for a desk and thought I’d try it as a bedside table in my room. As soon as I moved it in there and sat it beside the bed, I knew that wasn’t the spot. My room is light and airy, so this piece was too dark and chunky, but I left it alone to see if it would settle in to stay.
Two days later I felt inclined to remove it from my room and sat a wrought iron, glass top table that I’ve had for years beside the bed. That works for now, but this morning I was singing Halleluiah for that nudge to move it out and was ever so grateful for a glass top table!
I woke up this morning and my room was dark, but I’m growing accustomed to waking up before the day. I made my way to the kitchen to retrieve a glass of water and went back to my room to sit in the middle of the bed. I reached for the side table to sit my glass of water and forgot my favorite, glass tea cup was still there from the night before, half full of lavender tea. The glass of water collided with the cup of tea to create that oh so familiar sound of clunk…crash…splash.
I switched on a lamp just in time to see pale, purple liquid covering the top of the glass, pouring through the frame to make a large puddle on the floor beneath. It was in that moment I was so grateful to have swapped the rattan cabinet for this glass top table and grabbed a towel to mop up the spill.
I could only imagine the sticky mess this would have been if I hadn’t followed that inner nudging the previous day to swap the two tables. God knows our every move long before we make it and He knew I was going to fall asleep before drinking all of the tea and that I wouldn’t turn on a lamp before attempting to sit the cup of water down the following morning.
Stepping into the kitchen I looked at my glass, tea cup for the first time since knocking it over and it was perfectly intact. If I can trust that inner knowing over two tables, I can trust it in all areas of my life including this dream. I don’t need to discuss it, just focus and place effort toward it daily. I’d forgotten that the deepest dreams grow quietly in secret and the building part may best be done…in private.
