I don’t know that much about David Crowder, only that I’ve loved his music for as far back as I can remember. His music is as distinctive as his appearance and at first glance you probably wouldn’t tag him as a famous Christian artist.
I heard this song driving home the other day with the inspiration from my previous post and thought about my Mama. She sang in our church choir and sometimes on Wednesday night she’d take me with her to choir practice and let me sit and listen to them sing. Now, Mama wasn’t the best at singing, and she knew it, but you could tell at practice on Wednesday night she was giving it her all. She also knew it was best to always show up for practice and I don’t recall her ever missing one.
I wonder what Mama would think of the title of this song. When I was a child, you didn’t talk ‘about’ God, but you could talk ‘to’ Him. If the words, Good God Almighty flew out of one of our mouths we’d probably be in for a thrashing because it would sound almost disrespectful years ago, but it can be said today. Many churches won’t play Crowder’s music because it’s considered too edgy, or they don’t have a drummer, but this is the kind of music that stirs my soul and moves me to worship.
I hope Mama is singing this song at the top of her lungs at choir practice in heaven.
