Keep a Record

When I think of things that spark happiness in my life, new ink pens make the list. What to write with and on are important steps to Morning Pages that we discussed in These 3 Things. I enjoy a smooth writing gel pen with a .7, or .8 fine tip and use a variety of colors, but my favorite color is purple.

What you choose to write on for Morning pages is completely your preference, but I started with notebook paper and pen. At the time, my daughter was taking college courses and our home had an overabundance of it. The nice thing about notebook paper is the lines, which are helpful first thing in the morning. Sometimes I wrote all 3 pages which is suggested by Julia Cameron of The Artists Way and other mornings it was less, but at the very least there was one full page written from top to bottom.

I found a spiral notebook leftover from my daughter’s school days, and used that for a while, but the single pieces of paper are more comfortable. My forearm lays flat on the table allowing my hand to slide across the loose leaf paper with ease. I stand corrected in Monday’s post where I said I started experimenting with the pages in 2021. I recently found a spiral notebook that holds a set of morning pages from 2019!

In 2021, I discovered the magic of parchment paper. I encourage you to go to an office supply store and spend time in their stationary/paper aisle to see what sparks your heart. Southworth Paper makes resumé paper and it’s quite fancy, but at times you can find it online at a better price than the store. The gold parchment was my favorite for a lot of pages, but right now I’m using a woven cotton in Blush. Find one that feels right and write.

This week, I read the pages from 2019 and reading about my life from then and seeing it now, was like reviewing evidence of the steps that brought me from there to here. The pages free up space in our mind and it feels safe to let them keep a record.

  1. Thank you, Barb! I will have to keep this in mind when my enthusiasm tanks for my daily food diary. My favourite at work was a beautiful pale, almost florescent blue, but I had every color available for doing shop drawings – until my two bosses discovered them, and then the installers, and then I couldn’t keep them in my pen cup from one day to the next. 😂

    1. You are welcome Anne. Yeah…pen thieves are the worst! I haven’t used a cup for them in years for that reason and kept them tucked away in a drawer, but now living alone, I’m reacquainting myself with the charm of the pen cup. 💖

      1. Even worse when the thieves are actually the ones paying for the pens they steal. 😂

      2. Hmmm….so is that really stealing? We’ll just call them them a gaggle of takers. 😂

About Me

Grab a warm cuppa and cozy up to inbarbsworld. I’m Barb, the writer behind this blog and I share through a clear, simple lens. I’ve lived a life filled with everything that money could buy, but in 2014 I left that life to feel myself living. Now, I know what abundance truly is and it can’t be bought.
