Park Beside Me

My daughter was in town and surprised me with a visit. She admitted to being nervous about not telling me, but really wanted it to be a surprise and it was!

I’d been helping a neighbor with some printing and walking back and forth between houses trying to get the google doc to print correctly, so when I heard the tap on the door, I assumed it was the neighbor. The dogs went wild from the knock on the door and some cuss words flew out of my mouth, but when I opened the door and my daughter stepped into view, I could have cried, it was so unexpected.

My daughter and I used to park our cars side by side in the driveway. My truck sat on the right and her Jeep was on the left if you were viewing from the street. After she moved out I still pulled to the right out of habit when parking, but one day I parked smack in the middle of the driveway, but it didn’t feel right. During that time she came for a visit and I forgot to move my truck over, so she had to park behind me. In a teasing way, she gave me a hard time abut hogging the driveway and in a way she was right, I wasn’t leaving room for anyone to visit, even her.

Once her visit came to a close, I walked her to her Jeep, parked right beside my truck and my heart was full. She told me she halfway expected me to still be parking in the middle, but I told her that was a short lived experiment. It’s imperative to leave space for the people in my life to park beside me.

  2. I feel your joy. I had an unexpected phone call from my eldest daughter Wednesday afternoon. (This “may” happen once or twice a year at the most) I can tell your heart is full. Good stuff Mom.

    1. Thank you DM and isn’t that the best? When it’s unplanned and just happens naturally it looks so different. I’d been cleaning the day she surprised me with a visit and felt like the house was a wreck, but was able to look past all of that and enjoy our time together. I think I only apologized once! 😂

  3. Even though I have no one special at the moment to park beside me, I totally get that.
