Faith Like Wildflowers

I’m still enjoying ironing, but I may have become overly ambitious. I bought a pair of cargo pants made from an almost silky fabric, so they’re very flowy, but the pockets…my gosh…caused flashbacks of the red, ruffled shirt mentioned here. I ironed them, but afterwards thought…you might be visiting the cleaners.

At this stage of life it matters more how the fabric feels to my skin and I just returned a shirt that was purchased to go with the cargo pants, because it didn’t feel good. I literally wrote my reason for return as, “It doesn’t feel good.”

I have empathy for plants being subject to our Texas summer, so I haven’t bought but one and planted it in the shade. I did something completely out of character and scattered wildflower seeds around the base of the trees out front. These seeds are shade hardy, so we’ll see what happens, but I’m excited over the experiment.

A man who trimmed the trees years ago stopped by to see how they are holding up and he was impressed with how good they looked. I didn’t have the heart to tell him they’ve been trimmed again since he was here, but I asked him about scattering the seeds around the trees. I didn’t want to take any nutrients away from the roots.

He told me they wouldn’t hurt the trees and if anything they would nourish one another because the wildflowers would attract pollinators for the trees. What really surprised me was how many times he announced, “Wildflowers are just weeds!”, as if trying to convince me, but I just smiled and made note that he’s not my people.

In his mind I purposely planted weeds in my yard, but this yard is filled with weeds and I just let them be. Most of them produce tiny flowers, which makes me wonder, “Are flowers just weeds we saw profit in, or are weeds our faithful flowers?” The thing I love about wildflowers is they’re not dependent on humans. They trust what the day offers will be enough and I’ve never seen anyone on the side of the road watering wildflowers.

Trust that this day holds everything we need and let’s have a little more faith like wildflowers.

    1. Hah! Thank you Mags. I’ll be sure to post about them later on if they do what I hope for, or even if they don’t, it’s going to be interesting. 🦋

  2. I lived a few blocks from a wetlands area where a nature group intentionally planted a large area of wildflowers at the entrance, not only was it stunning but there were a lot of pollinators that were drawn to it. Did you know that wildflowers being designated as weeds is a human belief that because wildflower’s growth isn’t controlled. Wildflowers actually help me have faith that with our cooperation nature can survive the serious challenges it’s faced with.

    1. Hi Laura and my goodness, I bet that was stunning! Yes, if I lived near a field it would be covered in wildflowers. A neighbor planted them all over his front yard last year and he didn’t see one mosquito, so they are pretty magical and they strengthen our faith. 💖

  3. I love wildflowers myself. There are so many different kinds when you drive the backroads here in the country, just blooming because it’s a good place to be. We can learn a thing or two sometimes ….

    1. I love them too Peapod and find it interesting the places they choose to take root and bloom. Backroads are magical. 💖

  4. The only downside to backroads, and I expect you find the same thing, is that the roads are all 2-lane blacktops, and there’s never anywhere to pull over and take a picture of the amazing things I see!

    1. Be blessed by the blacktop, Peapod. The ones I used to drive down were dirt and gravel, but you’re right, there’s no shoulder to pull onto. For me, they were always a great adventure where you just hoped for the best. 🥰

      1. Well, that’s true. Here, if you’re on dirt and gravel, you’re on a private road/driveway to someone’s farmhouse! 😊
