Be the Church

I don’t attend church every Sunday, but I think about it and miss being a part of one. The church community is important, but it’s not an easy place to fit in.

This is a common problem among followers, and I listen as my friends wrestle with the same issue. We have a desire to encourage and lift one another up, but the politics of the church get in the way. Churches that have been around a long time aren’t too keen on change but let a new preacher man walk in and wait to see if he makes the needed changes or allows the traditions of church to confine him. It takes time, but it’s usually the latter. Even Godly men throw in the towel, but sometimes God throws it back and gives them the strength to go another round.

I walk in wearing jeans and a t-shirt, but they’re good quality and some glare at me like I’m a heathen, while others wish they could’ve worn the same thing. Church is for fellowship, music and preachin’, and even though I don’t step into the building often, there’s ample opportunity right outside my front door to be the church.

Still loving this song from the post Tail Wags.

  1. Years ago, I remember a sermon by Chuck Swindol, talking about this issue in the church….he called it the “porcupine dance. …just like porcupines on a cold winter night..they need the warmth of other porcupines, but as they huddle up ( and get too close) their quills start sticking each other, and they back away..) I’ve been a person of faith since my early 20’s and have seen this dynamic played out again and again. We were part of a small group when we lived in New Jersey that was a mid week informal get together sponsored by the local church we were attending atthe time. Speaking just for myself, I got way more encouragement, and a host of other things during those times, than Sunday mornings when we sat in rows. ..flash forward to today, that is currently what we’re doing for “church”, and I come away every week encouraged, something I don’t take for granted. 2. I love this DM and thank you for sharing. I’ve also enjoyed similar, informal get togethers where you can connect and feel supported in a smaller setting. I’m happy to hear you have that now. God has used me in just about every church setting over the years, from taking care of babies, hosting women’s Bible studies, all the way through preparing college kids to stay steady in their walk. Just not really sure where to plug in during this season. 🙌

  3. My Grandmother went to church every Sunday, although she talked about the advantages of going into the closet to pray .I believe she saw that for many Sunday service was more about being seen than being with God. Liked⭐️
