I’ve got a real thing for matches. Probably because of my love for candles and the matches are used to light them. This offers ritual to use a long wooden match to light a candle and you should try it.
I’m sitting in front of the book table while writing this. I don’t even call it a coffee table anymore because it rarely holds a cup of coffee, but books…oh yes, it’s covered in books. There’s a Volupsa candle sitting in the middle of all the books along with a container of matches, but not just any matches. Months ago, I did a google search for ‘pretty matches’, and that’s how I found them.
Every online search contains the word, ‘pretty’, or why bother. These matches are infused with sweet Balsam, so before lighting the scented candle, I pause to inhale the aroma of the burning match. They weren’t cheap and some may scoff at the $24 price tag for matches by knowing there are cheaper matches available, but I live an unsupervised life and look for meaning over cost.
The number of hours I work each week determines the amount of money made. Money equates to time and energy spent, so the reason I’m particular about purchases is because they offer a reward of time spent. You don’t have to spend money but take some of your time back. I spend time every morning allowing ample energy to return for the day. These matches are a treat.
That’s why I work from home. It’s not the job so much as what all it offers. Anywhere I look inside my home, I see glimpses of life’s little rewards.
