I love vintage items. Even if I buy something new it feeds my heart more if it has simple lines with a vintage flair. My favorite flower is the Hydrangea and I do a lot of my writing on a vintage typewriter, so things from the past feed my soul. I enjoy doing things by hand instead of them automatically done for me, but on the flip side, technology is useful and I wouldn’t have my current career without it.
A while ago, I went to the grocery store with just a few things on my list, but one of the most important was half and half. My daughter will tell you the quickest way to get me out the door and to the store, is if I’m almost out of half and half, but on that day my choices were few. The store was completely out of my usual brand, so I stood in front of the refrigeration section to inventory my options. That’s when I noticed this tiny, little milk bottle of half and half…

and squealed with delight!
I don’t recall having milk delivered to our home when I was a child, but my mother did during her childhood. You used to be able to have milk delivered to your doorstep, in glass bottles nestled in a sturdy, plastic crate. Once the bottles were empty, you’d return them outside for the milkman to replace them with full ones.
At the store, a woman walked up beside me, opened the glass door and grabbed a container of half and half without giving it a thought, but by now I’m weighing out the worth of paying twice the price for this little bottle.
I’m happy to report it was worth every penny. Whenever I poured half and half from the glass bottle into my mug it elevated the experience. It made such a simple act feel important and meaningful, so I kept the empty bottle to use as a small vase.
It’s times like this I realize that we may live in a world run by technology, but my soul is a vintage soul.
