Sunday, I went to church. I don’t show up in person very often, but if I can’t get my shit together to leave the house in time, I watch it live online.
In person is so much better.
I started going to this church mainly for the preaching, so I show up a few minutes late to miss some of the singing. There’s nothing wrong with the worship band, but I have praise and worship music playing on my radio most days, so I can worship at any time. Maybe that’s more of an excuse than a reason for not showing up on time, but this is where we are for now. It’s a miracle to even have this church in my life and when I think back on how I found it, this little church actually found me.
I started to feel a tug at my heart for church and living near the city there was no excuse to not find one, but I kept dragging my feet. After spending a lifetime being involved with every kind of church, I really wanted a ‘Job well done’ sticker on my back to just move on with life, but God had other plans. On Sunday mornings, I’d hop in my truck and drive around looking at church parking lots to gauge the attendance, but found one extreme to the other of overflowing, or almost empty and I wanted the in between of a medium sized church, so I made a deal with God.
“If you can show me a church that has one service at 10:00 am, I’ll go.” Most church services are at 9:00 am, and 11:00 am, but I thought 10:00 am would be perfect! Driving through town every church sign had those two times posted for services, so I turned around to make my way home, but took a road I wasn’t familiar with. That’s when I saw a huge sign by the road stating the name of a church and one service at 10:00 am. Be careful what you ask for, because you might just get it. 😂
PS. Here’s another post about church.
