My therapist tells me I’m a fun person and a blast to be around. She’s trying her best to get me to ‘insert myself’, into life outside the home and we’re making progress, but that quote by Elsie De Wolfe, “I’m going to make everything around me beautiful and that will be my life”…Yeah…I took that quote way too seriously for far too long.
December of 2019 was one of the first few times I wrote about the disco ball, so maybe it has something to do with winter settling in that causes me to crave more light. This reel was floating around Instagram last year and I found it truly inspiring!
There’s a wooden sign that sits on the window sill in my writing room that says, “Trust your crazy ideas”, and it one of my favorites. The craziest ideas are the ones that turn out to be the most fun. I have a disco ball hanging from an old oak tree in my front yard, but never thought about bringing it inside to pick up the indoor light until seeing the cat in the reel, so I brought it inside to see what it would do!
I sat it on the entryway floor near the kitchen considering it’s been hanging outdoors, in a tree for years I wanted it near the front door just in case something crawled out of it! The light streaming in from the kitchen window reflected off of it and bathed the surrounding area with rainbows of light and it was magical!
There are posts on Instagram showing homes with a disco ball in every room sitting in ideal places to capture the light. I ordered a smaller one for inside the house and hung the original disco ball back outside. For a while I had the new one sitting on my desk, but it took up a lot of space and probably wasn’t the safest place for it. This is one ball that wouldn’t bounce very well, so earlier this week in true Disco Ball form, I hung it from the ceiling in front of the double windows.
It’s amazing and the sunlight catches it from every angle to throw little dots of light all over the room. Trust your crazy ideas my lovelies. They will most likely lead you to doing something just for fun!
