The monthly letters went in the mailbox on Monday and are headed toward their destinations. The topic of February’s letter is ‘trust’, and there’s always more to share. During this morning’s incident, ‘trust yourself’, is what came to mind.
I was responding to a Marco Polo from my friend, Alyse, when I saw the trash truck whiz by my window. It stopped at my neighbors house, so I had time to roll my can out to the street to catch them, and bid my friend farewell to step outside. Normally, I place my cans by the street the night before, but forgot to last night, and they don’t usually pickup the trash up until late afternoon until they decide to come early.
The man saw me coming up the driveway, trashcan in tow and took it from me. After the trash truck became quiet, I asked, “Does recycling come today?” He said, “I don’t think so. I haven’t seen many cans sitting out.” The fact that he saw any made me question my source, plus my recycling can was full which indicates, it’s been two weeks. Our trash picks up every week, but recycling is every two weeks. Looking up and down my street, there we no recycling cans in sight, but something felt off.
I parked my empty can where it belongs and stepped inside the house just in time to hear a reminder chime from my phone. I looked my phone and it said, “Recycling 9:00 am.” I edited the reminder to remind me the day before from now on.
The truck for recycling picked up that afternoon. When somethings not right within, we can trust our knowing and investigate further. Information from someone else isn’t always accurate and when there’s lingering doubt… it’s time to trust yourself.
