A Table from God

There’s a built in bench in the middle of the backyard where I do most of my repotting. Standing at it in the early morning is quite nice, but as soon as the morning sun gets high enough in the sky, that area heats up and it’s not enjoyable. I could stand there playing in dirt for hours, if it were in the shade, but it’s built into the ground.

There are shaded areas in the yard and there’s one area that looks cool and stays shaded underneath my kitchen window. As I’m standing at the built-in bench, my gaze landed on that shaded area and I thought it would be nice to have a table right there. Old and wooden, or metal, but tall so I wouldn’t need to stoop over the plants.

It was a fleeting thought of something that would make life sweeter, but not necessary and easily dismissed minutes later. I looked at Facebook Marketplace to see what’s available, but this table didn’t need to be nice, or new. It would sit in the rain and be covered in dirt most of the time, so I wanted a table that no one else wanted.

Driving out of the neighborhood, I saw a tall, wooden table sitting on the edge of a neighbors front lawn. I couldn’t tell if it was sitting out for trash day, or if it was being used as protection from the sun for the flowers planted underneath, but it had been there a few days. When I returned home, the table had been moved away from the flowers and placed on the very edge of the lawn, so I stopped to take a closer look.

God knows to be very clear with me, so when the table moved, I knew it was for me. I managed to get it in the bed of my truck, brought it home and it slid into place perfectly. God doesn’t ignore a single thought and He’s proved it more times than I can count. I’ve almost completely used a 50 lb. bag of potting soil while standing at that table in the shade and that, sweet souls, was the day I received a table from God.
