Apps

I’m clearing out the draft folder as a part of my Sacred Bow for this year. I wrote about Sacred Bow in 2020 on another blogsite, but it’s so much more than one post. For me it’s a practice that starts the first of November and runs through the end of the year. I’ll be talking more about Sacred Bow, but one aspect of it is to clear out anything that doesn’t deserve space in the new year, so here we are in this folder. Most of these drafts won’t make it into the new year, but this one titled, “Apps” deserves further thought.

I don’t have many apps on my phone and the ones that are there have the notifications turned off. They are there for convenience more than anything and most are work related, so I remember to check them each day. My new favorite app is Google Play Books and listening to audiobooks. This gives my eyes a rest, but I’m still learning through books and it’s an excellent practice in listening.

This week, I’m taking time off from one of my jobs and my co-worker was teasing me about staying away from our Circle community. Hah…I learned years ago that this world revolves perfectly well without me, it just may be less quirky without people like me. Last night, I sat down and looked at my phone to make sure the notifications on my Circle app were still off and they were, but I went one step further and uninstalled the app. I’ve accidentally opened it many times by sliding my finger across the screen, and it pops open, but I didn’t want that to happen this week. Not during my week off.

Another co-worker mentioned using an app to block apps during his focus time. I just looked at him like, “So, you’re telling me all these people who created these noisy apps have created an app to block said apps?” That’s pretty brilliant but ridiculous in the same breath. There’s some hint of satisfaction that comes from pressing the ‘uninstall’ button that brings a smile to my lips. I’ll reinstall it next week, but this week, I’m relishing this time off with less apps.

  1. I love the idea of clearing out anything that doesn’t deserve to be there. I will look at my phone apps today. You continue to be an inspiration! ⭐️

    1. The ones that came with your phone are more difficult to remove, but easily disabled. Of course you’ll see a warning pop up telling you not to, but there’s just enough rebel in me to respond with, “Watch me.” 😄

Have fun with it lovely, and thank you! 💜

  2. hahah yes, taking a break from apps is like lightening our minds.
I used to want to stay updated minute by minute. The notifications from apps, and messages kept popping up on the screen and somehow, I was gradually annoyed by them. Now I only turn on some necessary notifications. Sometimes I deleted Facebook or instagram, Twitter for a while to be more focused on my life and to calm myself.

“…this world revolves perfectly well without me”. sad but true, it happens to me, too.

    1. I agree lovely and the constant vibration of notifications is tiring. There are no social media apps on my phone anymore mainly because I found myself spending my evening scrolling through them and felt that was a waste of time.

You are the sweetest soul. Thank you for sharing and the virtual hug. 🤗

  3. I love cleaning, clearing, cleansing, anything that involves removing the unwanted and worthless from my life. I feel lighter.
My Drafts folder was the only thing that, for some reason or another, I had been avoiding tackling. But now I am happy to say that I am motivated to see it completely empty, and I am getting there. Slowly, but surely!
Blessings to you! Have a restful time off!

    1. From reading your blog, Ana, I think you’re making progress with your drafts and that surely feels good. There is a lightness with less. Thank you and many blessings to you, my friend. xx

  4. It’s good to not have too many apps encroaching on your life. I have all the apps the iPhone came with, but only one (two?) additional that I installed. And all notifications are always off, except for phone and text. I live a pretty simple life that way – everyone/everything I need to know always comes to me. You, too?
