I’m clearing out the draft folder as a part of my Sacred Bow for this year. I wrote about Sacred Bow in 2020 on another blogsite, but it’s so much more than one post. For me it’s a practice that starts the first of November and runs through the end of the year. I’ll be talking more about Sacred Bow, but one aspect of it is to clear out anything that doesn’t deserve space in the new year, so here we are in this folder. Most of these drafts won’t make it into the new year, but this one titled, “Apps” deserves further thought.
I don’t have many apps on my phone and the ones that are there have the notifications turned off. They are there for convenience more than anything and most are work related, so I remember to check them each day. My new favorite app is Google Play Books and listening to audiobooks. This gives my eyes a rest, but I’m still learning through books and it’s an excellent practice in listening.
This week, I’m taking time off from one of my jobs and my co-worker was teasing me about staying away from our Circle community. Hah…I learned years ago that this world revolves perfectly well without me, it just may be less quirky without people like me. Last night, I sat down and looked at my phone to make sure the notifications on my Circle app were still off and they were, but I went one step further and uninstalled the app. I’ve accidentally opened it many times by sliding my finger across the screen, and it pops open, but I didn’t want that to happen this week. Not during my week off.
Another co-worker mentioned using an app to block apps during his focus time. I just looked at him like, “So, you’re telling me all these people who created these noisy apps have created an app to block said apps?” That’s pretty brilliant but ridiculous in the same breath. There’s some hint of satisfaction that comes from pressing the ‘uninstall’ button that brings a smile to my lips. I’ll reinstall it next week, but this week, I’m relishing this time off with less apps.
