I did something recently that I didn’t see coming. I moved the desk out of my writing room and placed it in the den. It wasn’t being used where it sat, because that room is too hot in the summer. The plants are happy in there, however, I wasn’t, so now we’re facing a wall while writing and we’ve been here before, but that was then and this is now. If we try something once and it didn’t work out, that doesn’t mean it won’t. Life has it’s own timing.
I’ve been quiet this month and it was needed. Summer for me can be draining, so during the sweltering months of the year we tend to our energy. Take note of when we have plenty and use it to our advantage, but rest when there’s less.
After moving the desk, the room looked empty, but felt spacious. I had some organizing to do in the den and have been thinking about painting the walls, but wanted to see what it would be like to have the walls empty. I took ‘Prince’ off the wall, which is no small feat by yourself and moved him into the empty room. I leaned him against the wall and pondered selling him, but he’s been with me more years than any person.
The room doesn’t have the same feel now as it did with the desk, so I saw it as a good space to meditate. I took the rug, wooden altar and Zafu cushion out of my bedroom and into this space. Once the weather cools down we may be moving the desk back in, but I’ve learned that I don’t have to blow my whole life up to create change. It can happen in small shifts. One inspiring notion at a time.
