Soak It Up

My phone rang at 8:00 am and it was unsettling to see it was my sister calling. She never calls that early and my first thought was, “Who died?”, but she wanted to catch me first thing to wish me a happy birthday. Her call set the tone for the rest of the day.

I received birthday wishes from Dwight over at Faded Jeans Living and Annie along with Jackie, all from the WordPress community. This is the one thing I adore about Facebook is knowing when someone’s birthday is. My FB timeline is filled with so many wishes for a happy day as friends and family reached out in various ways to connect it was a little overwhelming, but I soaked it up like a sponge.

My neighbors knew it was my birthday and texted good wishes and when I went for my morning walk, they stepped outside for a hug. One neighbor said I was the buzz of the street and the whole neighborhood knew it was my birthday. (Exaggeration) I told him to please do not do what they did two years ago. When someone lives alone by choice, don’t surprise them. I’m still scarred from that birthday when my entire street showed up in my front yard singing happy birthday, holding a homemade cake full of candles.

Just to be on the safe side, I left the house late Tuesday to hunt down a slice of cake and didn’t return home until well past dark. 😂

I love on people daily, but when it returns in full force all in one day, it’s a lot to absorb! That’s a good problem to have, but maybe that’s why I still feel loved the following day and for many days to come. That’s what love does. It lingers for as long as we’re willing to soak it up.

  2. It’s a beautiful problem to have, Barb — and it speaks volumes about the wonderful person you are. How amazing is it to be surrounded by so much love in your neighborhood? It’s almost unheard of these days, when so many neighbors hardly know one another. Keep shining your light and spreading joy! You are Love. You are Loved.❤️

    1. Aw…you’re a sweetheart, Dwight and thank you. Oh gosh…I love my neighbors! A couple of years ago, I pulled together a neighborhood directory of my street and the one behind me and it includes birthdays, so yes, we are in the know. Not sure what possessed me to do that, but it’s been a blessing for the most part. 🧡

  4. I am so glad to here you had a day filled with love, Barb. I would never be scarred by cake. The entire city could show up on my doorstep as long as they brought enough cake to share! 🎂

    1. Thank you, Anne! Oh…it wasn’t the cake…it was all the people. I didn’t even know half of them, so to me it felt like a small town was in my front yard. They figured it out though. Yesterday, I went to run some errands and came home to discover a birthday cake sitting near my driveway. They had all signed the lid covering the cake with much love. 💖
