Lovely

It’s been an odd week. I’ve been disappointed by people, but then others showed up to fill in the gaps of disappointment. As long as we just keep doing the next right thing, it all has a weird way of working itself out, but patience is a must.

I want to share how the story came to a close regarding the bird’s nest we talked about in Sanctuary It was one of those magical moments of being in the right place at the right time. From the kitchen window, I saw a baby bird perched atop the wrought iron hanger and he flew away quickly, but then another one made it’s way to the top and stayed there for a long time. He was covered in more fuzz than feathers and just wasn’t sure he could trust his wings to get him across the yard to his mother.

I could relate to this guy more than the other one and thought, “There are days I don’t trust my wings either, little guy”, but on those days…I trust God more.

When the female Cardinal first started building this nest, I thought she had pressed it between the wrought iron hanger and the pot holding the Asparagus Fern, but this week, I carefully removed the fern from the hanger to find a surprise. I thought the nest would fall to the ground after the pot was removed, but it didn’t and I got to see that Mama bird knew exactly what she was doing when building her nest.

She didn’t depend on anything except the chosen spot and if the pot was removed, the hanger would still be there holding her nest. Some of my most favorite aspects of this little lake house are the things that were done before me and without me. Like sweeping away some dirt to find pieces of colored glass imbedded in the steps outdoors, or Beery 2012 scratched into the cement slab before it dried beneath the gate. (I’m assuming that’s a last name and not a first.)

The disappointments this week diminished knowing they were of this world and there’s a difference between being ‘of’ it and ‘in’ it. Being present while standing by the kitchen window I got to see the nest being built, hear two babies being fed and then trust their tiny wings to fly can be described in one single word…lovely.

  1. This is such a sweet ending. I love those little reminders that God is often holding things together in ways we don’t even realize until something gets moved.

And I can relate to that baby bird too. Some days my wings feel a little questionable. LOL. But thankfully, my confidence doesn’t have to be in my wings. It can rest in the One who knows exactly when I’m ready to fly. :)

    1. Hi Kimberly and I agree. It’s funny how I questioned the stability of the nest when all the while it was stuffed in there tightly. So true…we don’t have to depend on our own strength when we can have confidence in His. 💕

  2. We may have to look for them at times, but there are always nice things to see and hear after disappointments. I am happy for you Barb that you had those birds to enjoy. We can learn so much by watching life in nature. Hugs and blessings for you on this Saturday.
