An Outdoor Room

Saturday morning, I stepped outside to check and see how everything is doing. Earlier this week, a hanging basket holding a huge Boston Fern broke and landed at my feet while I was watering it. That startled me into the present moment!

I split the fern in half and placed one half in a hanging basket given to me by someone at a garden center. The basket wasn’t large enough for the fern to be happy long-term, even at half it’s original size, but it’ll do, for now. The other half of the fern was repotted in a container and placed inside an urn, but it didn’t look happy where it was sitting, so I moved it to the porch to give it ample room.

I walk through my yard with the same intention as walking through my home. I was still in my pajamas, but wearing my writing robe and there was a slight breeze causing it to flow along behind me as I strolled down the pebble pathway. Walking from planter to planter, sticking my hand in the dirt to make sure it’s not dry and moving things around if they don’t look happy where they are.

My yard feels like an outdoor room and if it wasn’t so humid, I’d sit there for hours simply taking it all in. I swiped this photo from FB because the wing-backed chair caught my eye. It looks to be a cozy place to sit and marvel at an outdoor room.

  1. Ooh, I love this concept, and I definitely think of my garden and patio as rooms of my house too. Also, I suddenly need a writing robe. Hehe. Lovely to read your beautiful musings as always, Barb. x

    1. Right? Every writer needs a robe dripping with words! I just happen to wear mine until noon, but we won’t mention it to Amanda. 😊 I’m happy you see your outdoor space in the same way and as always, thank you for your lovely support Louisa. 💖

  3. I took in a wonderful winged-back chair like that off the street 2 minutes after my neighbor put it out – such timing! I love how this one looks, but I’d worry for my chair in the damp and weather. Your area sounds wonderful – hope you get some dry weather and can enjoy being out there!

    1. Yeah…it’s not a very practical piece to leave outdoors, but I fell in love with the photo. It also started me thinking what type chair I’d like to sit in outdoors. That post is coming. Lol 💜
